Ms. Anyi Ropero Barrera| PhD Research

Anyi started her PhD in December 2023 in the Soft Matter @Interfaces group at the University of Bristol. Partly funded by Wessex Chemical Factors, her doctoral research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of long-lasting antimicrobial action. She has been characterising surface nanostructure of functional films using synchrotron XRR, and correlating these nanostructural features with the optimisation of key active components in the films.

When not entertaining her bacterial colonies at the Bristol Medial School, Anyi serves as the group Pudding Club Secretary (of couse only good bacteria are permitted at the weekly Club). She completed both her undergraduate and master’s degrees at the National University of Colombia, after which she worked for over a year in research and development within an industrial setting.

Outside Uni, Anyi enjoys dogs and cats (not the kind raining from the sky often in England) dancing, and cycling.
