Ms. Chenlin Lu| PhD Research

Biomimetic lubrication integrating fundamental hydration lubrication mechanism with robust boundary layers has promising potential for osteoarthritis treatment and other biomedical applications. Chenlin is particularly interested in developing composite microgel lubrication systems for enhanced functionality and improved durability. Her research aims to incoporate lipid constructs and other functional entities and she plans to study nanostructure of these constructs and probe lubrication mechanisms using advanced physicochemical methods, particularly synchrotron X-rays and neutrons - stimulated by the tales of Grenoble blue cheese fondue and evil Ridgeway House English breakfasts...

Chenlin joined as a PhD student in Sep 2025 supported by the CSC–UoB PhD Scholarship, following her Master’s degree in chemical engineering. After graduation, she worked in industry focusing on research and development of oligonucleotide therapeutics. Following her highly acclaimed chocolate brownie contribution to the Pudding Club (popular due to the rich flavour and generous serving portion), Chenlin is feeling much more at home on this small island...
